Dog Boarding with Medication Administration — No Extra Hassle
A lot of dogs need medication — daily pills, joint supplements, heart medication, thyroid treatment, anxiety meds, eye drops, you name it. That doesn't mean they can't be boarded. It just means you need a facility willing to stay on top of it. At Kiesel Bark Pet Resort in Auburn, we administer medications for boarding dogs every single day. It's a routine part of what we do, and we charge just $1 per dose to do it.
Dog Boarding with Medication Administration in Auburn, AL
Finding a boarding facility that will actually handle your dog's medication correctly is harder than it should be. Some places say they'll do it, then forget a dose. Some charge so much extra it feels like a punishment for having a senior dog or a dog with a health condition. And some just won't take medicated dogs at all.
We've been doing this since 2014. Medication administration is a normal part of boarding at Kiesel Bark — not a special exception, not a hassle, just part of taking care of dogs the right way. Auburn families with senior dogs, dogs managing chronic conditions, and dogs on short-term prescriptions trust us to keep their pup on schedule while they're away.
The process is simple. You bring the medication clearly labeled with your dog's name, the dosage, and the schedule. We follow those instructions. If anything seems off — your dog is refusing medication, showing a reaction, or something looks different — we reach out to you right away.
Medication Administration
Our medication administration service covers most common medication types. Here's what the process looks like and what we handle regularly:
Oral pills & capsules
The most common type. We administer pills on your dog's schedule — once daily, twice daily, with food, without food. Just include clear instructions and we follow them.
Chewable tablets
Heartworm prevention, flea and tick medication, joint chews, and similar supplements. Easy to administer and something we handle routinely.
Liquid medications
Antibiotics, thyroid medication, and other liquid-form prescriptions. Bring a clearly marked syringe or dropper with dosage instructions and we take it from there.
Topical treatments
Ear drops, eye drops, skin treatments, and similar applications. Include instructions for how and where to apply, and we handle it on schedule.
Supplements
Joint supplements, probiotics, fish oil, and other daily additions to your dog's food. If it goes in the bowl or gets administered separately, we can do it.
Anxiety medication
Dogs prescribed short-term boarding anxiety medication by their vet — we administer those too. Just make sure your dog has tried the medication at home before the boarding stay so you know how they respond to it.
Not sure if we can handle your dog's specific medication? Call us before you book. We'd rather answer that question upfront than have you show up on drop-off day with something we're not set up for. Most of the time the answer is yes — but if a medication requires specialized training or veterinary-level care, we'll be honest with you about that. (334) 734-2650

At $1 per dose, medication administration at Kiesel Bark is one of the most affordable in the Auburn area. A dog on two medications given twice daily adds just $4 per day to the boarding cost — which for most Auburn pet parents is a pretty easy call compared to alternatives like hiring a pet sitter to come administer meds at home.
How to Prepare Your Dog's Medication for Boarding
A little prep before drop-off makes medication administration go smoothly for everyone. Here's what helps:
- Label every medication clearly with your dog's name and the name of the medication
- Write out dosage and schedule in plain language — "1 pill twice daily with food" is perfect
- Bring only what's needed for the length of the stay, plus a small buffer in case of travel delays
- If your dog is tricky about taking pills, let us know the trick that works at home — peanut butter, pill pockets, wrapped in food, whatever it is
- For liquid medications, include a marked syringe or dropper if possible
- If your dog is starting a new medication right before boarding, it's worth testing it at home first so you know how they respond
- Let us know your vet's name and number in case we have any questions about the medication during the stay
Boarding Dogs with Chronic Health Conditions
Senior dogs and dogs managing chronic conditions — heart disease, diabetes, epilepsy, thyroid disorders, Cushing's disease, arthritis — are dogs that need boarding too. Their owners travel, have emergencies, and need reliable care just like anyone else. We don't turn away dogs because they're on medication or have ongoing health needs.
What we do ask is that you communicate with us clearly. The more we know about your dog's condition, what to watch for, and what the medication is doing, the better we can care for them. The American Kennel Club has a solid overview of caring for senior dogs that touches on why consistent medication schedules matter — and that's exactly the kind of consistency we provide during a boarding stay.
If your dog has a condition that could require emergency veterinary attention during the stay, make sure we have your vet's contact information and know the nearest Auburn emergency animal clinic. That's just good preparation, and it gives you peace of mind while you're away.
Boarding for Senior Dogs
Senior dogs are some of our most loyal boarding guests. Their owners have often been bringing them to us for years — sometimes through puppyhood, through their adult prime, and into their older years. We know these dogs. We know their quirks, their routines, and how they like to be handled.
Older dogs often do better in a boarding environment than people expect. They're less likely to be worked up by new situations, they're usually well past any separation anxiety, and they tend to settle into a routine quickly. What they do need is consistent medication, appropriate rest time, and staff that notices if something seems off. That's what we provide.
If your senior dog has mobility issues or needs help getting around, mention that when you book. We can make accommodations to make sure they're comfortable during the stay.
What Auburn Pet Parents Ask About Medication Boarding
Tell us the method that works at home. Most dogs that are difficult about medication have a trick — hiding a pill in peanut butter, a pill pocket, a piece of food. We use whatever works for your dog. If you use a specific brand of pill pocket or a particular food, bring some along. The goal is that the medication gets into your dog, not that we do it the way we prefer.
Our staff is on-site during all business hours — Monday through Friday 7am to 6pm, Saturday 7am to noon. For dogs that need medication outside those windows, or first thing in the morning and last thing at night, call us to discuss the specific schedule before you book. We want to make sure we can actually meet your dog's needs before you commit to a stay.
This depends on the severity and how well the epilepsy is managed. A dog that is well-controlled on medication and hasn't had a seizure in a long time is a very different situation from a dog with frequent, severe seizures. Call us and describe your dog's specific situation — we'll be straight with you about whether boarding is a realistic option and what we'd need to know to take care of them safely.
Yes. We track medication administration so there's no confusion about whether a dose was given, especially for dogs on twice-daily medications where a missed or double dose matters.
We contact you immediately and, depending on the severity, your vet as well. This is exactly why we ask for your vet's contact information at drop-off. We don't wait and see when something looks wrong — we reach out right away.
Yes. Capstar flea treatment is available as a grooming add-on for $10 if needed during the stay. If your dog comes in with fleas or you want preventive treatment, just let us know at drop-off.
