One of the most common concerns we hear from Auburn pet parents is worry about their small dog getting hurt by bigger dogs at daycare. A tiny Yorkie playing with a large retriever can be scary for both the dog and the owner, no matter how friendly the big dog is.
I’m Brittany, and my husband Justin and I have been running Kiesel Bark since 2014. We’re located right across from Kiesel Park on Chadwick Lane, and we understand that small breed dogs need different care than larger breeds.
That’s why we offer small breed dog daycare with size-appropriate play groups. Our climate-controlled, 3,000 square foot facility has space for dogs to play safely with others their own size. We also have secure outdoor play areas for fresh air and exercise.
Our daycare runs Monday through Friday from 7am to 6pm, giving working families in Auburn, Opelika, Loachapoka, Notasulga, and Lee County a convenient place for their small dogs to socialize and play.
Why Small Dogs Need Their Own Play Groups
Small dogs aren’t just smaller versions of big dogs. They play differently, tire differently, and need different supervision. When small breeds play together, they can actually relax and be themselves without worrying about a bigger dog accidentally knocking them over.
Size-appropriate grouping isn’t just about safety – it’s about making sure your small dog actually enjoys daycare. A Chihuahua that’s constantly dodging bigger dogs isn’t having fun. But that same Chihuahua playing with other small breeds? That’s when their personality comes out.
At Kiesel Bark, our experienced staff supervises all play groups and keeps small dogs separated from larger breeds. This has been our approach since we opened in 2014, and it’s kept countless small dogs safe and happy.
