Dog Bathing and Blow Dry Auburn

Your dog smells like wet dog even when they’re dry. Or maybe they found something dead to roll in on your walk this morning. Either way, they need a real bath – not the half-hearted hose down in your driveway that leaves them damp for hours.
We’ve been doing dog bathing and blow dry services in Auburn since 2014, and we’ve probably washed every breed you can think of. Little 8-pound chihuahuas that shake the whole time. Big 90-pound labs that spray water everywhere when they shake. Old dogs who just stand there patient while we work. Puppies who think bath time is play time and try to eat the bubbles.
What Dog Bathing and Blow Dry Actually Includes
When you bring your dog in for bathing and blow dry at Kiesel Bark, here’s what happens. We get them wet with warm water (not cold, not too hot). Use shampoo that’s made for dogs, not the stuff you use on yourself. Work it through their whole coat, get down to the skin where the dirt and oil actually are. Rinse real good cause leftover soap makes dogs itchy.
Then we blow dry them with proper dog dryers. Not the little hairdryer from your bathroom that takes forever. We got the big ones that actually move air and get dogs dry quick. We brush while we dry so their coat comes out fluffy instead of laying flat and weird.
Small dogs (0-20 pounds) cost $25. Medium dogs (21-45 pounds) run $30. Goes up from there based on size – $35 for 46-60 pounds, $40 for 61-75 pounds, and $45 for dogs over 76 pounds. Takes about 30 to 45 minutes for most dogs, longer if they got a really thick coat or they’re super dirty.
Dog Bathing for Different Coat Types
Not all dog baths are the same cause not all dogs are the same. A lab with short hair needs different treatment than a golden retriever with long hair. A husky blowing their undercoat needs way more work than a beagle who just needs surface cleaning.
We use different shampoos depending on what your dog needs. Oatmeal shampoo for dogs with sensitive skin. Deshedding shampoo for heavy shedders during spring when they’re losing their winter coat. Whitening shampoo for dogs with light colored fur that gets stained. Medicated shampoo if your vet said your dog needs it for skin problems.
Got a poodle or doodle with that curly coat? We know those dogs need extra care cause their hair holds water and takes longer to dry. Cant just blow dry the surface – gotta get all the way through the coat or they’ll be damp underneath and might get skin issues.
Short haired dogs are easier but they still need proper bathing. Their coat might be short but they still get dirty, still produce oils, still need that deep clean to smell good and be healthy.
Blow Dry Services That Actually Work
The blow dry is half the job. We see dogs all the time that got washed but not dried right – they’re still damp hours later, smell weird, and their coat looks flat and oily. That’s cause they air dried or got a quick once-over with a weak dryer.
Our blow dry process gets dogs completely dry. We use high velocity dryers that blow water out of the coat instead of just moving it around. Start at the head (most dogs tolerate that better), work down the body, get the legs and belly, finish with the tail. We’re checking as we go to make sure no damp spots got missed.
For dogs with thick undercoats – huskies, german shepherds, golden retrievers, aussies – the blow dry takes longer cause we’re drying two layers of fur. But it’s worth it cause when we’re done, your dog is actually dry and their coat looks good.
Some dogs hate dryers. The noise freaks them out or they just dont like the air blowing on them. We work with that. Use lower settings, give breaks, go slower. Takes longer but your dog doesnt have a panic attack over a bath.
Dog Bathing for Puppies and Senior Dogs
Puppies getting their first bath at Kiesel Bark usually do pretty good cause we keep it positive. Lots of treats, calm voices, making it a good experience so they dont hate baths forever. Young puppies dont need baths super often – maybe once a month unless they get into something gross.
Senior dogs need extra care during dog bathing and blow dry. We’re gentle getting them in and out of the tub cause old dogs have arthritis and joint problems. We use warm water cause it feels good on sore muscles. Take our time so they’re not stressed. Some elderly dogs have thin skin that bruises easy, so we’re careful scrubbing and drying.
If your senior dog has trouble standing for long periods, tell us when you call. We can work faster or give them breaks to lay down between washing and drying.
Medicated Baths for Skin Conditions
Your vet said your dog needs medicated baths? We handle that. Bring the medicated shampoo your vet prescribed and we’ll use it instead of regular shampoo. Medicated baths usually need to sit on the dog’s skin for 10 minutes before rinsing, so these appointments take longer.
Common reasons dogs need medicated baths: yeast infections, bacterial skin infections, allergies causing itchy skin, seborrhea, hot spots. The medicated shampoo helps but only if it’s used right – lathered good, left on long enough, rinsed completely.
Most dogs on medicated baths need them every 1-2 weeks for a few months. We can get you on a regular schedule so you dont have to remember to call every time.
When Your Dog Needs More Than Just a Bath
Sometimes a bath aint enough. If your dog is matted, we’ll tell you before we start. Small mats we can work out during the bath. Big mats need to be shaved out, which means you need full grooming, not just dog bathing and blow dry.
If your dogs nails are clicking on the floor, add a nail trim for $10. Takes an extra 10 minutes and then you’re done with everything at once.
Dogs who shed like crazy – we’re talking piles of fur everywhere – might want a deshedding treatment added to their bath. Uses special tools to pull out loose undercoat before it ends up on your furniture.
If your dog needs a haircut too, that’s full grooming. Starts at $45 depending on size and includes bath, blow dry, cut, nails, and ears. Just depends what your dog actually needs.
Dog Bathing for Nervous or Difficult Dogs
We get nervous dogs all the time. Dogs who shake, dogs who try to jump out, dogs who snap when they’re scared, dogs who just freeze and wont move. Been doing this 11 years – we’ve seen it all and we know how to work with difficult dogs.
For really nervous dogs, we go slow. Let them sniff around first, give treats, talk calm. Some dogs do better if the owner leaves cause they settle down without their person there. Other dogs need their owner to stay. We’ll figure out what works for your dog.
Dogs who had bad grooming experiences somewhere else usually come around after one or two visits here. They realize we’re not gonna hurt them or rush them or get frustrated.
If your dog is aggressive during bathing – like actually trying to bite, not just scared – we might recommend sedation through your vet. Some dogs just cant handle grooming without medication to help them relax. Thats not us being difficult, that’s keeping everyone safe including your dog.
How Often Dogs Need Bathing and Blow Dry
Depends on the dog. Short haired dogs who stay inside most of the time? Maybe every 6-8 weeks. Long haired dogs who go outside a lot? Every 4-6 weeks. Dogs with skin conditions? However often the vet says.
Dogs who swim in lakes around Auburn during summer need baths more often cause lake water makes them smell terrible. Dogs who dig in the yard need baths more often. Dogs who roll in stuff need baths immediately.
You’ll know when your dog needs a bath. They smell. They look dirty. Their white fur is brown. They’re scratching more than usual cause they got dirt and oil built up. Dont wait til they’re so gross you dont want them in the house – bring them in before it gets that bad.
Regular bathing keeps their skin healthy, coat looking good, and your house not smelling like dog. Plus it’s way easier to check for lumps, bumps, ticks, and skin problems on a clean dog.
Dog Bathing for Large Breeds in Auburn
Big dogs need baths too but washing a 90 pound dog at home is rough. They dont fit in your tub. They shake and water goes everywhere. Your back hurts from bending over. The whole bathroom is soaked when you’re done.
We got proper tubs and equipment for large breed dog bathing and blow dry. Our tubs are big enough for labs, golden retrievers, german shepherds, all the big guys. We got ramps so they walk in instead of being lifted (safer for old dogs and dogs with hip problems). We got the space and setup to handle big dogs without it being a huge ordeal.
Large breeds over 76 pounds cost $45 for bath and blow dry. Worth every penny when you consider the time, mess, and effort you’re saving doing it yourself.
Small Breed Dog Bathing Services
Little dogs are easier in some ways – they fit anywhere, they’re light enough to pick up, they use less shampoo. But small dogs can be just as difficult as big dogs. Some small breeds are nervous and shaky. Some are snippy. Some have delicate skin that needs gentle handling.
We’re careful with small breed dog bathing cause little dogs can get cold fast when they’re wet. We work quicker, keep the water warm, get them dried fast so they’re not shivering. Small dogs (0-20 pounds) cost $25 for bathing and blow dry.
Lots of small breeds have hair instead of fur – yorkies, maltese, shih tzus, poodles. Their coats need regular bathing to stay healthy and not get matted. Every 3-4 weeks usually works good for these dogs.
Why Auburn Dog Owners Choose Kiesel Bark for Bathing
We’re local, been here since 2014, right across from Kiesel Park on Chadwick Lane. Easy to get to from anywhere in Auburn, Opelika, or Lee County. Parking right out front so you’re not walking your muddy dog across a huge parking lot.
Our staff actually likes dogs. Sounds basic but you’d be surprised how many grooming places hire people who are just there for a paycheck. The folks washing dogs here want to be here, know what they’re doing, and treat your dog good.
Prices are fair and we tell you upfront what it’s gonna cost. No surprise charges, no bait and switch where they tell you one price on the phone and charge more when you pick up.
Climate controlled facility so your dog is comfortable year round. Clean – you can smell when a grooming place is clean versus when they’re just masking smells. We keep everything sanitized between dogs.
We also do boarding and daycare here, so lots of families add a bath before pickup when their dog stayed with us. Dog plays all week, gets a bath on the last day, goes home clean and tired.

Professional Dog Bathing vs Doing It Yourself
You can wash your dog at home. Some people do it fine. But professional dog bathing and blow dry is different. We got the right equipment, right products, right setup. Your dog gets cleaner, dries faster, looks better.
The mess stays here instead of in your bathroom. The time you spend fighting with your dog in the tub, you could spend doing literally anything else. Your back doesnt hurt from bending over a tub. You dont smell like wet dog the rest of the day.
For $25-45 depending on your dog’s size, we handle everything and your dog comes out properly clean and dry. Most people figure out pretty quick that paying someone else to do it is worth it.
Dog Bathing Add-Ons and Extras
Nail trim: $10, takes 10 extra minutes, gets your dog’s nails cut while they’re already here.
Ear cleaning: included with baths usually, but we’ll do it separate if needed.
Anal gland expression: yeah we do that too if your dog needs it. Most dogs dont but some do.
Deshedding treatment: pulls out loose undercoat, cuts down on shedding at home. Good for heavy shedders.
Teeth brushing: not many places do this but we can if you want it. Doesnt replace real dental care at the vet but helps between cleanings.
Dog Bathing for Specific Breeds Auburn
Labrador retrievers: short coat but they shed tons and get that wet dog smell. Bath every 6-8 weeks keeps them clean and cuts down on shedding.
Golden retrievers: long coat that holds dirt and gets oily. Need baths every 4-6 weeks plus brushing at home.
Poodles and doodles: hair instead of fur, grows constantly, needs bathing every 3-4 weeks minimum or it gets matted.
German shepherds: double coat that sheds year round. Regular baths help manage shedding and keep skin healthy.
Beagles: short coat but they get stinky. Every 6-8 weeks usually works.
Yorkies, maltese, shih tzus: hair breeds that need frequent bathing, every 3-4 weeks, or the coat gets greasy and matted.
Bulldogs: wrinkles need special attention during dog bathing. Gotta clean between the folds or they get infections.
Huskies: blow their coat twice a year, need extra work during those times. Regular baths other times.
What Happens During Your Dog’s Bath Appointment
You bring your dog in at your appointment time. We take them back to the grooming area. You can leave or wait, up to you. Most people leave and come back cause it takes 30-45 minutes.
We get them in the tub, wet them down, shampoo them good, rinse completely. Check ears while we’re at it. Then we towel dry them to get the excess water off and move them to the drying area.
Blow dry them completely – cant stress enough how important the drying is. A half-dried dog is gonna smell bad and possibly get skin problems. We make sure they’re totally dry.
Brush them out so their coat looks nice and any loose hair comes out. Give them a once over to make sure we didnt miss anything. Then we call or text you that they’re ready.
You come get your dog and they smell good, look clean, coat is fluffy. Pay at the front desk and you’re done.
